Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Training offered by Street Angel Project Inc. is designed to equip individuals with lived experience in recovery with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to support others in their recovery journey. This comprehensive training program aligns with national and state certification standards, providing participants with the necessary competencies to deliver peer support services effectively within various recovery-oriented systems. Additionally, participants will earn Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits upon successful completion of the training, contributing to their ongoing professional development.

Training Objectives:

• Prepare participants to become Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS).

• Provide foundational knowledge of substance use disorders (SUD), mental health challenges, and recovery pathways.

• Develop skills for supporting individuals through peer-based recovery services.

• Emphasize ethical responsibilities, cultural competency, and professional boundaries.

• Enhance knowledge of community resources, advocacy strategies, and referral processes.

• Offer CEU credits to support professional growth and certification renewal requirements.

Training Structure: The CPRS training program is structured into four core competency domains:

1. Advocacy:

   • Promoting recovery-oriented perspectives.

   • Empowering individuals to advocate for themselves.

   • Supporting the development of self-determination and choice.

2. Ethical Responsibility:

   • Understanding ethical principles in peer support.

   • Maintaining professional boundaries.

   • Ensuring confidentiality and informed consent.

3. Mentoring and Education:

   • Sharing lived experiences to inspire hope and recovery.

   • Supporting the development of coping skills and life skills.

   • Facilitating recovery-focused educational groups and workshops.

4. Recovery and Wellness Support:

   • Assisting individuals in developing recovery plans.

   • Supporting relapse prevention strategies and crisis intervention.

Program Components:

• Classroom Training: 46 hours of interactive instruction covering core competencies, ethics, and recovery support principles. CEU credits will be awarded upon successful completion.

• Supervised Practicum: 500 hours of documented work experience providing peer recovery services under supervision.

• Continuing Education: Ongoing opportunities for professional development, with CEU credits available for additional specialized training.

• Exam Preparation: Guidance and resources to prepare participants for the CPRS certification examination.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must have personal lived experience in recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges.

• At least 18 years of age.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Commitment to the principles of peer support and recovery.

Certification Process:

1. Complete the 46-hour CPRS training program and earn associated CEU credits.

2. Fulfill the 500-hour supervised practicum requirement.

3. Obtain letters of recommendation verifying work experience and recovery history.

4. Submit a completed application for CPRS certification.

5. Successfully pass the CPRS certification examination.
